Information and maps for individual visits of the Galveston tours plus the Duck Tour, Segway Tours, historic sites and NASA

will be available at the Tour Desk in the Convention Center Thursday evening prior to the dance.

Also, information will be available at the Hawthorn Suites Friday  10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. and in the Hospitality area Friday afternoon.

A great big thanks goes to Brian & Sue Ausburn for their extensive work in researching and putting together these tours.

 

 

Tour 1 – Galveston Island Tour Train

Train Departs from the Galveston Convention Center at 8:30 a.m.

Train Returns to the Galveston Convention Center at 10:00 a.m.

 

Enjoy a 1 1/2 hour, 17 mile narrated tour around the Island City on the Galveston Sightseeing Train!  This fun ride covers both Old and New Galveston.  Treasure Island Tour Train is the Island's oldest operating tour train, established in 1962.

 

 

 

Tour 2A – Lone Star Flight Museum & Moody Gardens - Lunch is on your own at Moody Gardens.

 

Tour includes Flight Museum, and three attractions at Moody Gardens (Aquarium, Rainforest and 3-D IMAX).  

 

Bus Departs from the Galveston Convention Center at 8:45 a.m.

Bus Returns to the Galveston Convention Center at 2:00 p.m.

The LSFM continues to bolster its national and international reputation as one of the top flying museums in the United States. Today the Museum displays over 40 historically significant aircraft and over 1500 artifacts that demonstrate the quantum leap in technology - from gliders to space - over the past century.

Aquarium Pyramid® Sharks In Depth - explores shark fact versus fiction, anatomy and behavior through a series of hands-on activities. Caribbean Exhibit -  Sharks, sea turtles, eels and thousands of beautiful tropical fish swim overhead as you navigate through an underwater tunnel completely surrounded by the exhibit's one-million gallons of water.  South Atlantic Exhibit - The exhibit is patterned closely to the rocky beaches of South Georgia Island with two levels of viewing above and below the surface   North Pacific Exhibit -  Watch harbor seals, fur seals and sea lions as they play on the rocky shore and dive below the water's surface.  South Pacific Exhibit -   Stroll to the lower level for an underwater view to see more than 200 species of fish, stingrays and small sharks and their beautiful complex environment. 

 

Rainforest Pyramid® The 10-story Rainforest Pyramid® is where over 1,000 species of exotic plants from the rainforests of Africa, Asia and the Americas meet.

 

IMAX® 3D Theater – Enjoy larger-than-life films that fill your peripheral vision combined with superb sound to provide you with the best seat in the house. Slip on your 3D glasses to see incredible realistic three-dimensional images as they are projected onto a giant six-story screen with such realism that you’ll want reach out to grab them.

 

 

Tour 3 – Pier 21  Lunch will be on your own at Fisherman’s Wharf, Willie G’s or Olympia Grill. 

 

Bus Departs from the Galveston Convention Center at 9:15 a.m.

Bus will pick up for return to hotel at 4:15 p.m. 

Bus Returns to the Galveston Convention Center at 4:30 p.m.

The Great Storm is a 27-minute, powerful, multimedia documentary of the greatest disaster in Galveston history, the 1900 hurricane in which an estimated 6,000 people lost their lives. Don't leave Galveston without seeing this show!

 

Harbor Tour Boat - 11:00 am

See Galveston Harbor up close aboard Seagull II, Texas Seaport Museum's 50-foot twin-engine motor vessel. Fast, stable and sheltered, she was built specifically for harbor sight-seeing excursions and education, and is a perfect platform for waterborne experiential learning. The boat is U.S. Coast Guard certified and her operators are fully licensed and knowledgeable about the history and lore of her home waters.

 

1877 Tall Ship ELISSA – 1:30 pm

Unlike some tall ships of today ELISSA is not a replica, but a survivor. She was built during the decline of the "Age of Sail", to fill a niche in maritime commerce.

Visitors to the Ocean Star Offshore Drilling Rig & Museum enjoy experiencing the offshore industry first-hand on an actual retired jack-up drilling rig.
